Been a hot minute, huh?
How ya been?
Had a good Christmas?
...Yeah I hate small talk too. So let's dive into the juicier stuff.
I've had a rough past couple of months and that's put the brakes on a few different aspects of my life. But, perhaps the most personally devastating aspect, was my inability to sit down and write.
As some of you may or may not know, I am on the very cusp of publishing my first novel! I am halfway through my fourth (and hopefully final) draft and it's all very exciting.
I just...
Need to...
*strains to reach for the keyboard and write*
No, I give up.
*immediately crawls back into bed for a nap*
So, that's been my life for the past few weeks. Writing schedules, rewriting deadlines, breaking every task into teeny, tiny baby steps. Everything has been failing me though: my body, my mind, my resolve.
And you might be thinking: "Alex, why the Hell do I need to know all the miserable intricacies of your life? This is not the feel-good, informative blog post I signed up for!"
You're right.
And that's exactly why I'm writing this.
I want to say to anyone reading this -- whatever your goals are in life, however far along your journey you might be:
We've got this.
You've got this.
I've got this!
The image at the top of this article is another older photo of me from a couple of years back when I was in one of those silly, goofy moods. And my little piece of wisdom for you today is: embrace your silly and goofy moods!
Because We. Have. Got. This.
...Yeah I know that's all well and good me saying that. But you might be thinking "Alex, what are some actionable steps I can do right now to achieve my goals?"
Step 1: Eat three meals a day. Think of food not as food but as energy. You're gonna need it.
Step 2: Get some sunlight daily (as best you can.) Sunlight make brain happy. And a happy brain is a more-willing-to-work-and-get-stuff-done brain.
Step 3: Move your butt. Sitting and lying won't do your body any favours. I personally recommend whacking on a song you really like and having a boogie (or if that idea embarrasses you -- get up and stretch or clean something while the song is on (and if you end up a-jiggling anyways I certainly won't judge, heheh))
Step 4: Pretend every new minute is a new start. Did you plan to do some homework this morning but now it's 7pm and you've missed your chance? There's still time left today! My aim going forward is to do one big thing off of my to-do list per day. That way I'm not overloading myself.
So yeah, those tips should start you in the right direction. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THESE FOUR STEPS. Your body and mind are like the girlfriend of your dreams: you treat her right, and she'll treat you right. ;)
Anyways, I'll admit, this post was just as much for me as it was for any readers reading this. But I hope you found something useful out of this! And if ever you need a lil' extra nudge: come back to this page, look at the image of teenage Alex giving you the thumbs up and read the title a few more times until it sinks in.
You've got this.
-Alex
(Secret Step 5: I'm considering doing some write-in livestreams to hopefully motivate me to do some work. If that is something you'd also be interested in, let me know! You can either leave a comment below or send me a message on any of my social media platforms. :D)
